Cash For Clunkers
You know the saying. All good things must come to an end. But was the Cash Allowance Rebate System (CARS) a good thing or not? It depends on who you ask.
North Hollywood Toyota – Scion has seen an extreme increase in business since the program’s roll-out late last month. But it has also created a heavy burden for participating dealers. Stories abound in the news about dealers waiting to be paid back by the government program. Customers and dealers alike have suffered through website crashes and an ongoing sense of impending doom, not knowing when the program’s money might run out.
But love it or hate it, it appears that the program we’ve come to affectionately know as “Cash For Clunkers” has found it’s end. For real this time! Officials are telling dealers that all “C4C” deals (as they’ve also become known) must be processed by 8pm Eastern time on Monday, August 24, 2009. Any deal that isn’t in the system at that time will simply won’t be reimbursed by the Feds.
North Hollywood Toyota – Scion plans to honor the program through at least Saturday the 22nd, but things could change at any moment. “We’ve got 138 deals upstairs waiting to be processed. At an hour and twenty-five minutes per deal we’ll be cutting it very close. We’ve got office staff working all through the weekend,” says Chris Ashworth, Vice President and General Manager of the dealership.
So, attention all procrastinators…. NOW is the time to take advantage. Many other dealerships have already stopped honoring the program. With thin inventories and high demand, consumers this weekend should be prepared to compromise a little in order to save a lot.

I was just forwarded an email regarding a recent Cars.com study. Here is the content:
Everyone knows Toyota Camry is America’s most popular passenger car. Now comes word from Cars.com that according to their criteria Camry is also America’s most American car or light truck, based on where the vehicle’s parts are made, where it is assembled and sales volume.
In fact, Camry is not only at the top of Cars.com’s American-Made Index, but three other Toyota models also made the list of the top 10
Camry is assembled at Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., while Sienna is assembled at Princeton, Ind.; Tundra at San Antonio, Texas; and Venza at Georgetown, Ky. In addition, Sienna, Tundra and Venza were all designed and engineered in large part in the United States.
Beyond the American-Made Index, the article has data on the origin of parts content and assembly of various vehicles sold in the U.S. that you might find a useful reference.

CARS Rollout
First of all, there is no such thing as “Cash For Clunkers”. It is well-documented at this point that any official-looking website claiming to be an authority on the “Cash For Clunkers” rebate program is potentially a scam. The government does indeed have a program that could reward some car buyers thousands of dollars for their old gas guzzler. But this likely won’t benefit most car buyers and not for quite some time.
President Obama has signed the program into law according to the official government website, but the program won’t be officially rolled out to dealers until late July. What this means to the consumer is that dealers won’t be able to access the program benefits until they know how. As it stands, the details are still being worked out regarding dealership responsibilities and participation guidelines.
Some car buyers are currently delaying their purchases for all the wrong reasons. Customers will not be able to get the full retail trade-in value of their cars in addition to the government rebate. Since the dealerships will be forced to destroy the trade-in vehicle, they will only be able to give it’s value as scrap material. Customers who have an old trade-in worth six or seven thousand dollars for example, will be better off to trade the car rather than apply for the (maximum) $4500 CARS rebate along with the couple hundred dollars as scrap value.

$1000 College Rebate!
You’ve heard about the GINORMOUS Toyota College Grad rebates going on right now. But did you know you can apply this to a brand new, Pure Priced Scion as well?? It’s really that simple. The program runs from May 1, 2009 until Sept 30, 2009. So be sure to take advantage soon because Scion reserves the right to end the program at any time.
By the way, the best part is that qualifying Grads will also be eligible for Tier 1 finance and lease rates. This means you would have some of the lowest rates available even if your credit isn’t necessarily the best.
